  12. Subculture is informal culture. There are many different types of youth subculture nowadays. Young people join informal groups to express their individuality or to rebel against the society or to show off. They are labelled to different groups such as: bikers, rockers, hippies, skinheads, goths, hackers, punks, emos, grungers, ravers, mods, townies, preppies, majors, teddy boys, chealsea girls and etc. The names of many informal groups originated from the kind of music teenagers listen to or other things they are interested in.

  13. Thus, rockers listen to rock music, punks dye their hair bright and listen to acid rock, hippies listen to rock’n’roll, skinheads are interested in football and often shave their heads bald, hackers like computers and understand them very much, bikers enjoy riding on motorbikes, goths dress in black, dye their hair black and read about vampires, emos wear black and pink clothes, use much make-up and listen to emotional music, teddy boys and chealsea girls are also skinheads, ravers organize all-night dance parties in empty houses, mods use a lot of make-up and ride on scooters. Punks, hippies, ravers and skinheads use drugs. Rockers, skinheads, goths, punks are aggressive.Rockers, skinheads, bikers wear leather jackets.

  14. Grungers have skateboards, they wear baggy jeans, baggy hooded tops, loose T-shirts and silver or black metal jewellery or chains. Goths’ enemies are townies or “the children of the street”. They wear fake “gold” jewellery, fake Adidas or Nike trousers with white socks and baseball caps. They smoke. Preppies come from rich families. They wear shirts instead of T-shirts, and trousers instead of jeans. Why do people pay so much attention to image? A lot of teenagers dress in order to be a part of a group, they choose a hairstyle to fit an image. We should understand that it’s bad when people put a label on a boy or a girl but it’s even worse when a boy or a girl put labels on themselves and let it influence on their tastes, interests and lifestyle. We should try to be ourselves and hope that other people will respect them for that.
