  1. Société Française de Chirurgie Orthopédique et Traumatologie Key projects in 2008 Title: The national SOFCOT meeting and the actions during the year were very much oriented towards prevention and treatment of fractures related to osteoporosis. Action Summary: Multidisciplinary round table discussion on osteoporosis involving the research group on Osteoporosis and the International Osteoporosis Fondation. The well established open day meeting directed towards the general public organized by SOFCOT during the national orthopaedic meeting in Paris was able to give information about osteoporosis and metastatic bone diseases. Impact: All actions oriented towards the general public are now supported by the link with association of patients affected by osteoarticular disease (AFLAR-ORTHO). This link has been able to report on SOFCOT actions throughout the year such the combined SOFCOT-EFFORT forum on bone union. Future Development: When the global action for the general public is well established since three years in Paris at the time of the national meeting the challenge is now to create several satellite actions in the country focusing on the surgical possibilities to treat fractures, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid diseases.
