Understanding the E.C.C. Rubric: Effort, Completeness, and Critical Thought

The E.C.C. Rubric is a comprehensive scoring tool designed to evaluate student performance based on three essential criteria: Effort, Completeness, and Critical Thought. Each category is worth up to 6 points, totaling 18 points. Effort measures the student's capabilities and past achievements. Completeness assesses adherence to directions and the thoroughness of responses. Critical Thought evaluates the application of learned protocols, rubrics, and methodologies, such as Six Traits and B.A.M. This rubric facilitates consistent assessment and encourages students to strive for excellence.

  1. The Better Answer Method Restate the Question in your answer. Construct a “gist” or main idea response Add supporting details: such as evidence, examples, data Stay on topic! Ask yourself “Did I answer the question to the best of my ability?” Use proper conventions: grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization

  2. The E.C.C. Rubric = 18pts Total • Effort (6pts)– is measured by what you are capable of and what you have achieved in the past. • Completeness(6pts)– is measured by how well you followed directions and the comprehensiveness of your response • Critical Thought(6pts) – is measured by the application of protocols, rubrics, algorithms and methods you have been taught. Ex: Six Traits, B.A.M.
