  2. --0--Insufficient—means you get a ZERO, as in NO point, NO credit, Nada, Nothing, Zilch….man this answer stunk up the place…stank, stank, stank • --1--Partially Sufficient —means you are on the edge of passing if you can pull it together on the rest of them. It’s not quite so stinky...more like a whiff • --2--Sufficient—means you did it correctly—YEA! Your response smells like a rose. • --3--Exemplary—means you are a genius, and Ms. B should add time to your lunch each day…your smell…why your answer smells like the only thing as sweet as PENELOPE , Pepe’s Cherie! 4 Types of Responses

  4. POINT= Point out the answer. Make your POINT • INTRODUCE= Introduce your support with a signal phrase • EXAMPLE/EXPLAIN= Example time: offer a quote and explain it so that it relates to the text Memorize

  5. Ways to set up the POINT: The first sentence should include the question and your answer: • Question: What type of character is Aunt Gracy? (P) Aunt Gracy is an unbelievably cross old woman. • Question: Why do you think Nancy is scared at the end of the story? (P)Nancy is scared of her father because he is emotionally abusive. • Question: What is the tone of the story? (P)The tone of the work is courageous.

  6. Ways to INTRODUCE Practice incorporating quotations into your answer. Here are some ways to do so: • Add an easy signal phrase that connects the quote to the point: Question: What type of character is Aunt Gracy? (P) She was an unbelievably cross old woman. (I)This is seen when she says, (E)“I’d like to kill those birds that wake me up with their singing.” • Question: Why do you think Nancy is scared at the end of the story? (P)Nancy is scared of her father because he is emotionally abusive. (I) For example, he says, (E) “you’ll never be as good as your sister in anything” and locks her in her room, and this is a very hard thing for any child to go through. • Question: What is the tone of the story? (P) The tone of the work is courageous. (I) This is seen when Nancy marches into the room like(E) “a soldier on a mission,” with her eyes flashing “rockets into his heart” even though she was scared.
