  1. Plate Tectonic Theory

  2. Pangaea • The 7 continent connected like a puzzle

  3. Continental Drift Theory • This Theory reveals that the continents were connected like a puzzle, Pangaea, and they slowly drifted apart due to plate tectonic movement

  4. Continental Drift Theory • The continents started to slowly drift apart to what we see today.

  5. Proof of the Theories • During World War II they developed SONAR to look for Submarines and it proved Plate Tectonic and Continental Drift Theory

  6. Plate Tectonic Theory • The Earth is not one solid piece but it is made up of slow moving labs of rock that ride over the pliable layer of the Earth.

  7. Plate Tectonic • Plate movement could cause an Earthquake

  8. Plate Tectonic • Plate movement can cause mountains to form

  9. Plate Tectonic • Plate movement can cause waves to form

  10. Plate Tectonic • Plate movement can cause volcanoes to errupt

  11. Convergence • When 2 plate converge or smack together

  12. Subduction • Continental plate is overrides an Oceanic Plate

  13. Rifting • The pushing up and out of Plate Tectonic

  14. Faulting • 2 Plates Sliding back and forth against one another

  15. Weathering • The Breaking Up and Breaking Down of Rock on the Earth’s surface into smaller and smaller pieces

  16. Erosion • The Movement of Weathered material by water, wind, or ice.
