Changes to FCAT • Reading and Math • Students in grades (3-5) will only have multiple choice questions on FCAT. • Short and extended written response questions have been eliminated from grades (3-5) tests. • Students in grades 4 and 5 will have multiple choice and gridded response answers in math. • FCAT Testing – April (18th-21st) • Writing • Students will be given either an expository or narrative prompt to respond to on the day of FCAT Writes. • They will be given 45 minutes to plan, write, and edit a complete essay. • Only one judge will score their essay. Students will no longer receive an average score from two different judges. • Scoring Rubric (1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, and 6.0) • FCAT Writes – March 1st

Science • Spelling/Vocabulary Test will not be given the same week students have science tests, this does not include science vocabulary quizzes. • Study Guides will always be given prior to a tests and checked in class the day before the test. • Textbook online • Students will be assigned work from the Pearson website. • Request for lab materials will be made as needed throughout the year.

What is “Parent Assistant”? St. Johns County Schools’ Parent Assistant is a web-based application allowing parents to view their child’s education information. PVPV/Rawlings’ Grades 3-5 are part of an elementary pilot program for this useful parent-teacher communication tool. All middle and high schools in St. Johns County currently offer Parent Assistant. Features include: students’ schedule of classes; homework assignments, tests, grades; current progress in each class; detailed attendance information; and much more.
Parent Assistant Usernames and Passwords 1. Visit PV/Rawlings’ front office in the Rawlings’ building in person. We will distribute usernames and passwords on Mondays and Fridays from 9-11 and Wednesdays from 12:00-1:30. A current photo ID must be provided. 2. The county has also provided a way for students to bring home a form to authorize the Parent Assistant account: http://www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/pa/ (Link for general Parent Assistant information and Waiver.) http://www.stjohns.k12.fl.us/pa/PA Waiver_v1.pdf (Link for Parent Assistant Waiver Form only.)
