Introduction to Academy • Registered Charity • Social Enterprise • provide new opportunities for more people to participate in sport and recreational activities. • provide learning and development opportunities for people. • have a positive impact on social targets such as health improvement, increased employment opportunities and crime reduction. • help strengthen community cohesion by becoming a focal point for a range of community based activities and programmes

  4. Why Spartans Smilers? • 92% of Primary 7 aged children in North Edinburgh have tooth decay • NHS Tooth brushing Programme stops in P2 • No programmes incorporating oral health & football Girl dribbles around giant tooth

  5. Smilers Programme • 5 week programme • Classroom & Football pitch based • Child Friendly Learning Styles • Covering; • Plaque • Tooth Brushing • Diet • Dental Visiting • Numeracy & Literacy (CfE) Sparry

  6. Smilers- Impact Edinburgh University Evaluation • 80% of boys & girl retain key learning points even after 1 year • Dental registration increase • Over 90% of children have visited the dentist since project • Children teaching family members at home Children love Sparry
