  1. Solar Power So you decided, you want to change to Solar Power, but you don’t really know how it works... No Problem

  2. How Solar Panels work Energy From the sun hits the solar panel and gets split into + and - Now you have energy that can be used for certain appliances*

  3. Energy from your solar panel can now be used; however its 12v DC and can only be used by certain appliances. So in order for this energy to be used by all your normal appliances; it needs to be converted to 220AC that’s where the inverter comes in.

  4. Chargers vs. Inverters We all know this... Its a Cellphone charger, it converts 220Volts ACInto DC Volts, usually 5V DC An Inverter on the other hand changes DC power into AC power

During the day your Solar panels will generate power which will charge your battery bank, run your loads and the extra power generated will be fed into the Grid – effectively making your meter run backwards! Come night time(when your panels don’t generate power) you again draw the energy you “stored” on the grid... With the right amount of panels, etc; after this yoyo effect on your municipal meter You can have a zero balance the end of the month!!! Or better yet, Eskom owes YOU!!!
