  2. Yihao Ben Pu learned the basics of sailing from a friend back in high school, and since then, he’s aspired to become an expert. He knows it will take years, as there’s always something to learn. Like many “sailors,” Pu has realized that sail boating is an affordable activity. With the right budget, indeed any sailing enthusiast can find a vessel that suits their needs. What many don’t know is that you can purchase a brand-new boat and have it financed with similar terms to that of a car loan. Additionally, it can double up as a second home. And where the boat has a berth and galley, these can be deducted from the interest on a boat loan

Fueling the vessel An average boater will spend no more than 80 hours on water during a season, with the majority of boats measuring less than 26 feet in length, so the amount of gas needed isn’t very significant. Unlike driving where you need to keep the engine running to move, a boat’s motor does not always need to be running. If you plan to fish or swim, then you won’t be using the engine at all.

  4. Maintenance Maintaining your boat can be as simple as giving it a freshwater wash after every trip and keeping it covered when it’s inactive. For services such as winterizing and oil checks, expect the same hourly rates as you would for your car.
