  1. Our proposal PROMOTING URBAN SAFETY AND CRIME PREVENTION THROUGH COMMUNITY ACTION EX OFFENDERS PROPOSAL

Introduction Future Rising Stars is an initiative formulated by the Ex Offenders whom were all sentenced to life in prison, through God’s will they then were released on Parole for their good behavior inside hence they want to continue to contribute positively to make change in their society outside. They want to help the eThekwini Municipality during pick seasons Summer December, Easter, Winter July Durban Vodacom Season and during September Celebrate Durban Holidays which is facing a lot of challenges in dealing with crime and restoring order mainly on the beach shore and the main parking areas within the city of Durban. We therefore proposing as we are highly alert people having served want to assist the city by contributing towards dealing with crime prevention and making the city a safer place for our visitors and local people during this 4 annual seasons by being Beach Guides, Street Marshalls, and Tourist Champions.

Our Objectives • Our Project want to help the Durban Safer Cities Programmein achieving its year 2060 plan of :- • Effective Policing • Targeted Social Crimes • Urban Safety and Management of Built Environment • Community Involvement in Safety • How can this initiative do that :- • By involving ex offenders to be trained as Beach Guides, Street Marshalls and as Tourists Champions – thus decreasing opportunity of them committing more and other crimes. • Help CCTV City Surveillance Unit in dealing with hot spots and quick response in the ground to touch base with law enforcement (City Police, SAPS, iTrump etc..) – therefore we can be posted at hotspots streets as mapped out by the Disaster Management Unit. • We can also help in dealing with response in disaster stricken areas or by adding heads if help is needed.

  4. Action Plan • We proposing the following to eThekwini Municipality : - • To recruit at least 50 of our ex offenders (and be given small stipends thus stopping them to be involved in crime) • To train them on crime awareness their roles in the crime prevention plan • To be trained on how to report crime • To get a easy to be identified uniform i.e. Caps and a T- Shirts with municipal logo • To be part of planning in crime prevention initiatives ProjectTeam Mr. NyakazaNdlovuSizweHlongwa ThandekaMbuyisaSimphiweMseleku Aaron MsebeniNonhlanhlaBiyela RenishaPillay SibusisoMtembu
