  7. Mise-en-scene: Costuming Cryptic Extreme measures • Cryptic contrasts to other thriller medical dramas. • Other medical dramas are usually in professional and sterile conditions. • Our film subverts this shown by the costume differences. • This creates suspense and interest around our film as it is a countertype so seems unusual and mysterious.

  8. Mise-en-scene: props Extreme measures Cryptic • Our film also subverts stereotypes with the surgeon drinking a glass of whiskey. • We can also see unprofessional themes from the bloodied box which is unusual for thriller films

  9. Mise-en-scene • In cryptic we see the surgeon putting on gloves showing he has some care for the condition of the organ . • On the other hand, we see him wiping a scalpel on his dirty apron which goes against this idea.

  10. Lighting, camera work and narrative Cryptic A cure for wellness • Similar shots in both films. • Mid shot showing the surgeon looking over the body in both • Close up shot of the victims face in both. • Similar camera work displays the similar narrative of a doctor abusing their power over someone. • Differences in lighting in both films. • A cure for wellness has an older by using desaturation. • Cryptic has modern LED lights to create low key lighting.

  11. Sound: soundtrack and sound effects Cryptic The donor • Soundtrack is used to add tension in both. • Tension adheres to the thriller genre. • Soft beeping of a heart rate in the donor. • Heart rate monitor in Cryptic linking to conventions of a hospital film.

  12. Titles Cryptic The donor • The donor titles last for a similar duration to make the text readable for all reading speeds. • The duration was 3x reading speed. • We made the name larger than the title. • Faded in and out the titles in both films. • Our film adheres to typical titles In the introduction to films.

  13. Titles • We can see similarities in titles between the pictures based on the order and the text sizes. • We chose to put our title in the center to show it’s significance.

  14. Editing The donor Cryptic • Other medical dramas use montages • If we were to develop our film further, we may add montages however instead we wanted to focus more on the narrative to hook people to the storyline. • We wanted to follow Barthes theory of enigma codes by showing themes and ideas relevant in the storyline to raise questions so viewers watch on.

  15. Narrative 12 hour shift Cryptic • Narrative similarities • Both involve themes of kidney transplants. • Cryptic adheres to themes presented in other thrillers • Cooler boxes in both videos shown by close up shots however in 12 hour shift it is a clean box.

  23. Status and class roles • Low angle shot on the businessman. • High angle on the surgeon. • The surgeon is wearing a hoodie and the businessman is wearing a suit. • Sound- music escalated when ted walks away from the window • Opposition in their actions • Businessman is shown using bitcoin by an over the shoulder mid shot. • Close up shots show a scalpel in the surgeons hand and a mouse in the businessman's hand.
