European Union • The European Union (EU) is a political and economic community of twenty-seven member states, located in Europe. • The main political centres for the European Union are in Brussels, Strasbourg and Luxembourg. • There are 785 members of the European Parliament. Which are elected by each country within the European Union every 5 years. • EU Develops rights so people can study, work and live in any of the EU countries.

European Union The European Union is composed of 27 independents sovereign countries which are known as member states:Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. There are three official candidate countries, Croatia, the former Republic of Macedonia, and Turkey.

  6. Commonwealth • A voluntary organisation of 53 countries most of which are former British colonies (the exceptions being the United Kingdom itself and Mozambique). • The Headquarters of the Commonwealth is in Marlborough in London. • Queen Elizabeth the second is the head of the Commonwealth

Commonwealth • Countries meet to discuss issues like Human Rights, Economic and Social development and the Environment. • The Secretariat makes sure that any actions decided at the meetings are carried out and processed. • However The Commonwealth doesn’t have any real power. It doesn’t act as a single political entity and doesn’t really have any influence over non member countries

United Nations • The United Nations (UN) is an international organization • Aims are to facilitate cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress and human rights issues. • 192 member states, including almost every recognized independent state. • The UN is financed contributions from member states • Has seven official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish and Polish.

United Nations • So What does the United Nations Do? • The UN works to find peaceful solutions to disputes, encourage global cooperation • Protects peoples basic human rights. • If a country breaks these rules, the UN can impose economic sanctions (stops people trading with that country) and send in peacekeepers. • In 1998, the UN set up the first International Criminal Court (ICC) to prosecute war criminals and those who have committed genocide (deliberately killing a nationality or ethnic group) or crimes against humanity.

United Nations • the united nations is split into different sections such as; • The General Assembly (the main deliberative assembly); • The Security Council (decides certain resolutions for peace and security); • The Economic and Social Council (assists in promoting international economic and social cooperation and development); • The Secretariat (provides studies, information, and facilities needed by the UN); • The International Court of Justice (the primary judicial organ).
