  1. 3 SIGNS WATER’S GETTING UNDER YOUR VINYL SIDING Other than your roof, siding is the largest exterior component of your home.  You may think that vinyl siding on your house is waterproof, and for the most  part it is. However, damage or poor installation can result in small gaps and  cracks over time. These gaps and cracks allow water to seep through, which  can be a huge nightmare down the road.  Whether it is heavy rain, your sprinklers, or even just the humidity of the  climate in which you live, any amount of water that gets through your siding  can cause extensive damage to your home. And if your home is missing a  water-resistant barrier, the damage could really end up costing you. Keep  reading for signs that water is getting under your vinyl siding.  SPOTTING ON YOUR SIDING If your vinyl siding looks peppered in grey, black or white spots, you likely  have a problem with mildew. Though you can probably wash them away, the  spots are often a sign of a bigger problem and will keep coming back until  the problem is resolved. Water behind the siding promotes the growth of  mold and mildew, and unless you remedy the problem, it will continue to  cause damage  PEELING PAINT OR WALLPAPER INSIDE Has the wallpaper or paint on the walls inside your home started to peel for  no apparent reason? This can be a sign of significant water damage and must  be addressed immediately to prevent further damage. Check your house for  peeling paint or wallpaper, mildew spots on the walls and other signs of  moisture. If you spot signs of water damage around your home, check the  siding outside in the corresponding areas. You may find small cracks or  rotting that is allowing water into your home, and you can be certain your  siding is to blame.

  2. EXTERIOR ROTTING SIDING Signs of rot on your siding should be an obvious red flag. Rotting siding is  often an indicator that your siding has moisture trapped behind it, which can  create a fungus. This fungus can eat away at the wood behind your siding  resulting in dry rot. This fungus can grow on your insulation and, depending  on the location of the rot, can be catastrophic for the structural integrity of  your home.  Damaged siding makes your home more susceptible to water damage. If you  suspect your siding is letting moisture into your home, don’t wait until it is  too late to fix. Our team at Ridgeline Construction is ready to inspect your  siding and assess any current or potential damage.
