3-Quick statistics about hearing impairment & deafness:- 1-In India, alone more than 1 million cases of deafness are recorded per year. 2-The number is high in global countries also. 3-In the United States, more than 200 000 issues of this common health issues are recorded annually. 4-World Health Organization reports says that 5% of world population has total or significant loss of hearing. 5-For the age group of 65 and above almost one third are suffering from this disease. 6-Most of them are residing in South Asia, the Asia Pacific and sub-Saharan Africa regions.
4-Causes:- 1-Ageing: It is the most common cause of deafness. 2-One out of three people age 65-74 has some level of hearing loss. 3-Common conditions that can increase the risk of deafness in elderly people are high blood pressure, diabetes or the use of certain medications harmful to the ear.
5-Hearing loss symptoms:- 1-Muffling of speech and other sounds. 2-Avoidance of some social settings. 3-Facing issue in hearing T.V. or hearing at very high volume. 4-Frequently asking others to speak more slowly, clearly and loudly. 5-Communication difficulties in noisy environments or social gathering.
