  2. High quality at a fair price. Fully made to your design with an endless range of styles, sizes, and colours. Summerhouses are a great addition to any home as they lend themselves to many uses. It’s important to choose a building which will be well made and above all, last. HOWEVER, you need to know that it’s built to last. Read ‘What Other Summer Buildings Companies Don’t Want You To Know’ before choosing. It can help to make your mind up by physically examining them BEFORE you make that decision. If any company is not prepared to let you see their product beforehand, you need to be CAREFUL. A full assembly service is offered on all these buildings with optional insulation. You are in charge and these buildings are made to suit you, fully bespoke options.

  3. Insulated Summerhouses During the hot summer months or the winter, you may think about how can I make your summer building more comfortable. Adding insulation to it is one of the best ways to help keep it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. A wise investment. So the questions to ask are as follows:

  4. Should I Choose An Insulated Summer Building In The UK? The Summer Building is used traditionally through the warmer months and then, maybe, used as a storage place throughout the winter. Well, how about being able to use it all year round? With a little added investment and then deciding intelligently on an insulated garden summerhouse, you can use this wonderful building all year round. Your children can be out from under your feet and they can use it as their own with their computer games, music or chilling with their friends. Mum or Dad could use it as a ‘man cave’ or ‘she den’ for their own hobbies or pastimes. Or an insulated garden summerhouse or shed could be used as a home mini-factory for your business and if so, the cost would be tax deductible which is a ‘win-win’ for you.

  5. Can I Insulate My Outbuilding After Delivery? It’s reasonably easy to fully insulate a garden summerhouse or sectional building if you have semi-reasonable DIY skills. You would need to buy fibreglass insulation, purpose-made material or polystyrene and then cut this to size and fit it in between the internal framework. The fibreglass insulation will need tacking into place to stop it moving before you fix the inner skin. This can be plywood, hardboard (which you can get with an attractive veneer on it) or even T&G boarding. This is OK for the walls but the roof can be a little tricky as you have to put the insulation into place, but you have gravity working against you, making fitting the inner skin fiddly. You would, ideally, need 2 or 3 people to do the roof. After you have completed that it would also be a good idea to use cover strips over the joins to finish it off making it the ideal outdoor man cave.

  6. What Other Options Do I Have? On all our outbuildings, insulated summerhouses and sectional buildings (only timber or wooden) we are able to offer a full range of insulation options. All our Platinum buildings can have their roof and walls lined and then insulated enabling you to benefit from all year round use. We normally use a Kingspan quality insulation which is a solid composition with foil backing. There is a range of different internal linings. Before finishing the building they will have internal trims fitted ensuring a delightful finish. With a choice of internal cladding, you can choose one to suit you.

  7. Will These Insulated summerhouses Be Warm In The Winter? If your wooden outbuilding is insulated either by yourself or through our service then it will be nearly as warm as inside your house. Like your house during the colder spells you will have to have some form of heating inside. Ideally, an electric radiator, but never a Calor gas heater. Besides the flammability of it – these types of heaters give off a lot of moisture and can make the building damp. Avoid at all costs!

  8. Besides keeping your new garden house (or man cave or she room) warm in the winter it will help to keep it cooler in the summer. And this is something which not many people think about. And to be honest I never used to think about that but on our show site we had a normal uninsulated building next to an insulated one and I was checking them over. When I went from the uninsulated into the insulated one I could not believe the difference in temperature. I had to go back into the uninsulated one to check, so well worth doing so it would be an intelligent decision to add the insulation.

  9. How Much Will Insulation Cost For My Wooden summer room? All of our Platinum pages have links to the prices of the basic buildings and on the order form, you will see the cost for that particular model. On some, there is even an option to insulate the floor for even better protection from the elements. One of the questions is whether you can afford it. Well, if you would like to use your new building all year round then it’s worth working out what this all year round use is worth to you. To be able to have an all year round office or hobby room is a great asset and a little piece of calm away from our mad world. Or call us directly and we will be glad to provide a no obligation personal quote for you. We are, of course, very happy to supply you with a firm quote to meet your needs. Just call us on (0333) 800 8880 or (01483) 237550

  10. Can I Have A Coloured Paint Finish On My New Building? We provide a protective treatment on all our buildings but why not consider one painted with Sadolin (Diamond Buildings) or Valtti (Platinum Buildings) paints. Both are available in a range of colours so you find a colour to suit you. You can find more details about painted summerhouse here. Or, just contact us, and we will arrange a free quote for you.

  11. Can you buy flat-pack summer houses? Yes, flat-pack summer houses are available for purchase. We can offer a range of flat-pack summer houses that can be easily assembled on-site. These include Flat Pack Sheds, which offers a range of apex and pent flat-pack summer houses, and Flat Pack Houses, which offers customizable flat-pack homes, including summer houses.

  12. Can I build the summer building myself? It is reasonably easy to assemble the smaller buildings if someone can help you move the panels around whilst you screw them together. However, it is very important that you take your time and do the job correctly. This is vitally important with the fixing of the roof and the felting of it. If you get it wrong water may get onto your building and damage your possessions. Not a good idea. However, as standard, 1st Choice includes free installation of the building which is a far better idea. This saves you a lot of hard work and ensures the summer building is built correctly which will help its long life.

  13. However, as standard, 1st Choice include free installation of the building. This saves you a lot of hard work and ensures the summer building is built correctly which will help its long life. How long do summer houses last? The lifespan of a summer house can vary depending on various factors, such as the quality of materials used, the level of maintenance, and the climate. Generally speaking, a well-built and well-maintained summer house can last for many years, even decades.

  14. Some summer houses come with a warranty of up to 10 years, which you think would be a good indication of their durability. However, you will find (hidden away) are strict terms and conditions stating you need to treat the building EVERY year. So it is your treatment which is making the building last and not the so-called warranty. To ensure longevity, it’s important to regularly maintain the summer house, including treating the wood with preservatives or stains and keeping it clean and dry. By doing so you will be able to enjoy your building for a very long time.

  15. How thick should a summer house roof be? The thickness of a summer house roof can vary depending on several factors, such as the size of the roof, the type of roofing material used, and the climate. Generally, a summer house roof should be at least 12mm thick (always check this is the actual size and not cut from a 12mm board which would end up only 9-10mm thick) to provide adequate support and insulation. However, for larger roofs, a thickness of 16mm or even 19mm may be required to ensure stability and durability. It’s important to consult the manufacturer’s specifications for the recommended thickness of the roof and to ensure that it meets building regulations in your area.
