  1. How to Safely Handle Hazardous Waste With OSHA Regulations? Hazardous waste management procedures and regulations are addressed by a number of regulators. They provide some of the best practices for handling hazardous waste. Most employers are familiar with the environmental rules and regulations of handling and disposing of hazardous waste developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). OSHA also has a set of rules and guidelines on workplace safety procedures when hazardous materials may be present. Lack of knowledge related to hazardous waste management affects the employers and employees in their workplace. Why understanding OSHA rules are important? OSHA focuses on workplace health, or ‘industrial hygiene’ in OSHA terminology. OSHA has developed protocols for Hazardous Waste Operations known as OSHA HAZWOPER. It also addresses how to keep the general public safe. So, storing, treating, and disposing of hazardous waste needs to be done properly and safely. This is why employers involved in handling and disposing of hazardous waste must train their employees engage in Hazardous Waste Operations, or HAZWOPER. Employees working on sites with potential Hazardous Waste Operations must be trained on OSHA HAZWOPER standards through 40, 24 or 8 hour HAZWOPER training, depending on their role. Not getting trained can have a devastating consequence for the employee (and the employer), and large fines for the employer. Staying compliant on all OSHA training for your

Therefore, make a wise move to complete the HAZWOPER training, so you can understand the how to identify, prevent, and avoid workplace hazards. Who needs OSHA HAZWOPER training? The HAZWOPER training must be provided to all employees who will work on the site, such as equipment operators, general laborers, and supervisors or managers, who may have exposure to hazardous substances. Before performing any work on a hazardous waste site, the employer must provide its employees with initial training based on the tasks and operations that employees will perform and the exposures they are anticipated to experience. Based on the OSHA standards, HAZWOPER training applies to employers and workers included in 5 specific types of operations: Hazardous waste operations at TSD (Treatment, Storage, and Disposal) facilities The cleanup operations for uncontrolled hazardous waste, are required by a government body Corrective actions include cleanup operations at RCRA (Resource Conservation and Recovery Act) Emergency response actions, which include the potential release of hazardous substances Operations at non-TSD facilities, generating hazardous waste After the training, you will be provided a certification.
