This day commemorates the establishment of the state on April 1st, 1936, when it was separated from the Bihar and Orissa Province during the British Raj. The day is celebrated with much enthusiasm and fervor throughout the state. The history of Odisha dates back to ancient times when it was ruled by various dynasties like the Mauryas, Guptas, and Kalingas. The state is known for its rich cultural heritage, traditions, art, and literature. The famous Konark Sun Temple, Puri Jagannath Temple and Lingaraj Temple are some of the most popular tourist attractions in the state. The Odisha Foundation Day celebrations begin with the hoisting of the national flag and the state flag by the Chief Minister of the state at the state capital, Bhubaneswar. This is followed by a parade and cultural programs showcasing the state's rich cultural heritage.
