  2. Summary of Available Resources • Funding for IRS exercise by government • Availability of anti-malarial • Diagnostics • Currently no major problems with the government procurement process

LLINs ordering and distribution • No specific govt allocation towards LLINS • National requirement for universal coverage is 400 000 • Ordered 10,000 LLINs from a Japanese Grant to be distributed in October 2009 • Nets made available Botswana will be able to distribute nets by October 2010. But currently no donor commitment to get nets

  4. ACT Ordering • Procurement is done in a centralized system by the CMS however NMCP assist with quantification and monitors the distribution

  5. IRS Schedule • Yearly IRS application in all malaria districts • Procurement process of insecticide and other logistics undertaken from May every year • Training of spray persons every September in each district • Annual spraying cycle from October – December

  6. Other core interventions • Advocacy and Communication strategy • Re- orient the program towards pre-elimination: - MPR 9th to 21st August 2009 - MIS March- April 2010 - DES January to May 2010 - Insecticide and susceptibility studies- January to May 2010

  7. Summary of rate-limiting factors • Inadequate resources – malaria focal persons • Low uptake of vector control interventions by the community • Seasonality and low transmission resulting in low uptake of interventions

  8. Technical Assistance Needs • Capacity building to strengthen malaria diagnosis • Development of an M&E Plan • IEC/BCC material development • Social marketing of vector control interventions • MPR and Strategic plan • MIS
