  1. Winter In San Diego : Fun & Affordable Things To Do

  2. There is more to do in San Diego this winter than go to theme parks and football games (e.g. The Poinsettia Bowl or the Holiday Bowl). A few more affordable venues in the area have activities for people of ages to enjoy during the season.

  3. Instead of watching the holiday lights this Christmas, take in the sights of the breeding whales on the shores of Point Loma, or take a whale-watching trip from one of the several boating companies like San Diego Whale Watch for a closer view of these majestic mammals. Whale Watching in Point Loma

  4. Both indoor and outdoor entertainment choices await visitors at the nation’s largest urban cultural park, Balboa Park, home to the world-famous San Diego Zoo, fifteen museums, and numerous performing arts venues and amusements (e.g. the Miniature Railroad, San Diego Youth Symphony). With so many attractions available, nearby hotels offer discounts at the park’s many businesses. Visit Balboa Park

  5. On Valentine’s Day weekend, enjoy a cultural experience at the 34th Annual 2016 San Diego Chinese New Year Food and Cultural Fair in Downtown San Diego. Taste authentic Chinese cuisine, watch the parade and listen to storytellers and musicians perform. The event is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, and admission is free to the public. 6. For a midweek outing on the seaside, take a stroll to the Ocean Beach Farmer’s Market. This venue offers more than fresh-farmed produce, but live music, hot food of various kinds (e.g. Caribbean, Mexican), and homemade arts and crafts. Located on the Newport Avenue, the event is open every Wednesday afternoon from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the winter months. Ocean Beach Farmer’s Market

  7. If a unique holiday experience is what visitors are seeking, visit the Gaslamp Quarter are for the annual Holiday Pet Parade during the second week of December. The parade is free to the public, but the participation fee is discounted for pet owners who donate needed supplies to PAWS San Diego donation sites. Gaslamp Holiday Pet Parade

  8. For a getaway from the city scene and beachfront activities, a drive to nearby Julian, California to the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is in order. This 600,000-acre natural wonder (the largest in the state) is home to one of the world’s biggest populations of Bighorn sheep (over 250), over 80 species of birds, and thousands of wildflower varieties. The park also hosts many events, including a monthly stargazing show at the amphitheater. Anza- Borrego Desert State Park

  9. San Diego is full of holiday celebrations and events during the month of December, including parades, festivals, and light displays in Mission Bay, Coronado, Old Town, Escondido, Seaport Village, Carlsbad, La Jolla, La Mesa, San Diego Bay, and Chula Vista. Visiting San Diego in the winter is not only fun-filled but relatively easy on the pocketbook. Most airlines have super-discount and last-minute fares for travel on certain dates and times, and San Diego hotels have holiday rates and packages for accommodations. As with any vacation, planning ahead is always advisable. Holiday Parades and Light Display
