Has a consideration of organizational context become more prominent in the research on three traditional and central Organizational Behavior topics?

  • Sampling Strategy

Two 5-year periods, 25 years apart:

1967-1972 versus 1992-1996

  • Featured Articles in the Following Journals: AMJ, ASQ, and JAP
  • Micro OB Topics: Groups, Leadership, and Motivation

Methods—cont’d.
  • Phase I: Identified 249 articles published during two 5-year periods where the central topic was either groups, leadership, or motivation.
  • Phase II: Independent rater evaluated 249 articles according to the extent to which each considered organizational context in it’s treatment of the central topic.
    • Articles rated on a five-point scale, where 1=no consideration of organizational context, 5=explicit consideration of organizational context.
    • While 249 articles were identified in Phase I, the rater was not able to settle on a rating for 3 articles during Phase II.
