  2. What are imperatives? • THEY ARE SENTENCES THAT START WITH A VERB – BASE VERB (SIMPLE VERB) EXAMPLES OF BASE VERBS ARE: GO , COME , TAKE……

  3. MAKING iMPERATIVES: • TO MAKE THE IMPERATIVE, USE THE BASE FORM OF THE VERB FOR EXAMPLE: COME HERE! • SIT DOWN! • TO MAKE A NEGATIVE IMPERATIVE, PUT "DO NOT" OR "DON'T" BEFORE THE VERB: FOR EXAMPLE: • DON’T GO!

  4. USE of IMPERATIVES: • IMPERATIVES ARE USED TO GIVE : • ORDERS OR COMMANDS • INSTRUCTIONS • ADVICE AND • (IF YOU USE "PLEASE") TO MAKE REQUESTS.

  5. Orders OR COMMANDS: • EXAMPLES: • GET OUT OF THE SWIMMING POOL. • SIT PROPERLY WITHOUT MAVING NOISE. • COMPLETE YOUR ASSIGNMENT BY TOMORROW.

  6. INSTructions: • EXAMPLES: • TAKE  THE PAPERS TO THE WELFARE DEPARTMENT. • USE BLACK INK TO FILL IN THE FORM. • DON’T FOLD THE QUESTION PAPER.

  7. ADVICE: • EXAMPLES: • TRY TO GET  ADEQUATE SLEEP AT NIGHT. • DO NOT TELL LIES. • RESPECT YOUR ELDERS.
