Growing Latino Population Not Fairly Represented in Relevant Positions The local Latino population has been showing tremendous growth over recent years. Especially in regions such as the Broward and Palm Beach counties, it is impossible to ignore the immense Latino presence as entrepreneurs, artists, leaders and as a massive buying power playing a major role in the growing economy. Yet, to many, the lack of sufficient representation of the group in power positions remains a concerning factor. Boosting the Latino factor on local soil is and has been for several years already, the mission of the team at L’ATTITUDE. L’ATTITUDE has been emphasizing the vital role that Latinos play in the local economy as job creators, business owners, home buyers and investing in the local industries, improving the US economy. Yet, when it comes to areas that carry the highest percentages of the Latino population, the representation of this group in power positions, in boardrooms and political play is vastly falling short. Currently, this group have no other choice than to give their voting power to politicians who are running for office and while they are zoning in on the group’s voting power, they’re not representative of the cultural group. This is a concern to the team at L’ATTITUDE as the impact of not having relevant representation is visible in various areas of everyday life and impact this group tremendously in their day-to-day activities. One of the concerns the group had with the lack of presentation of the large Latino factor, especially in certain counties was that during the peak of the global pandemic, the time when the globe was mostly immersed in fear and uncertainty, any public messages regarding the virus was only presented in English and not in Spanish.
It was in Weston where the first outcry about this concern took place. Weston carries a population of which more than 50% are of Hispanic descent with Spanish as their mother tongue and yet when the city issued any communication its inhabitants, they didn’t do so in the language most widely spoken by its people. It appears that even though the Latino factor is growing, it remains somewhat unseen, or maybe even suppressed in powerful positions and places. The feedback received from the youngest generation of the cultural group, a generation ready to enter the working market, this suppression leaves them rather hopeless and in despair of ever achieving positions where their cultural group will no longer be considered mere employment and a workforce keeping their local cities running. It was this specific message conveyed to Alexandre Ayala when she became the first Hispanic elected at a Palm Beach County School board and shortly after visited a middle school in her district. Under the guidance of Sol Trujillo and Gary Acosta, it is this predominant impression regarding the Latino factor, that the L’ATTITUDE team is working to minimize by gathering the buy-in of open-minded professionals, entrepreneurs and influencers. They do everything in their power to provide information, guidance and opportunity to grow and excel beyond expectation, to this group. While the change has been slow, it is now gaining momentum and the importance of this very influential cultural group, both in their numbers and the impact they have on the economy, is earning far more awareness. The team at L’ATTITUDE never slacks in their efforts, they continue to motivate growth, share vital information, demand equal presentation and inspire a generation ready to proceed in leading their cultural representation into the future. The hope of many who are part of the Latino factor, benefitting the local US economy, rests on the outstanding work of this trusted team.
