A- Environment or Ecology? • ‘Environment’ is everything surrounding living organisms including tangible andintangible components. • Ecology is the science used to study the tangible components of the environment. • Ecology is the study of living things and their interaction with the surrounding environment. • Human beings’ environment, in addition to the tangible dimension, extends to include the intangible dimension of his social and perception components.

B- Why do we study environment? • If we look to Earth as a big ecosystem, we will recognize that this system is in balance since the origin of the univerese. • When it is irrupted by human interferences, which represented by consuming natural resources irrationally and polluted the system; the need to find solution for such problems is arise.

C- What is Environmental Science? • Environmental Science is the study of the Earth components including humans and their intangible dimension. • It also studies human effect on the other Earth components. • It is a multidisciplinary science i.e. a science that composed of different sciences e.g. ecology, biology, chemistry (dealing with tangible part of the environment), sociology, environmental sociology, environmental philosophy, environmental economics, environmental law….etc. (dealing with the intangible dimension).
