  1. Schools of Acting and Something More About the Methods of Acting There are many methods when it comes to acting but there are some that are more popular and more preferred than others. Most schools of acting will teach one or two of the techniques or methods that they consider the best way of dealing with the field of acting and becoming a success. The Chekhov technique and the Meisner techniques are two of the most famed methods that many schools of acting teach. The Chekhov technique is named after Michael Chekhov who was the nephew of Anton Chekhov, a famed writer and dramatist. He studied under Stanislavski who maintained that Michael Chekhov was not only brilliant but also completely one of a kind. In fact Chekhov was nominated for an Oscar for his great display of talent in the movie 'Spellbound' which was directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1945. Michael Chekhov was Russian in origin but was exiled from the country and later settled in America. Acting was his life's passion and he developed a technique that had a very psycho-physical approach. What this particular technique does is to encourage an actor to let his imagination take over his mind and body and be completely free to roam around. The reason behind this is to enable every actor to create characters that are fascinating and interesting in every way. Another objective is to reach inside and get total access to all dormant emotions after achieving all physicalized goals. Simply put, the Chekhov method seeks to release every creative cell in an individual's body and make a success of it. The Chekhov method is especially embraced wholeheartedly by schools of acting in Europe. Some famous students of this technique include Marilyn Monroe, Anthony Hopkins, Gregory Peck, Clint Eastwood, Patricia Neal, Lloyd Bridges and Ingrid Bergman. The Meisner technique is named after Stanford Meisner who was a theatre actor. It focuses every person gaining the ability to understand himself, the character he is given to play and the surroundings of that scene. The Meisner method has one main aim which is to completely get rid of the person playing the character and just leave behind that character alone on stage, as if the individual actor doesn't exist. This method requires a great deal of study and understanding, as well as commitment, from the person taking the Meisner training. The Meisner method also teaches how to concentrate and focus on other characters in the scene and use them to develop your own character further and better. The secret behind this method is to learn how to personalize the character that you are given so that you become the character in
