  3. TUCKMAN’S MODEL OF GROUP DEVELOPMENT • Most widely utilized model. • Also called Orming Model. • Developed by Bruce Tuckman of the Naval Medical Research Institute at Bethesda, Maryland.

  4. FOUR STAGES • FORMING • STORMING • NORMING • PERFORMING

  5. FORMING • Group members first come together to lay the foundation of the team. • Excitement, anxiety, dependence, and uncertainties are the driving motivations. • Issues-feeling of authority & feeling of inclusion and trust. • How to lead-add structure to the team meetings.

  6. STORMING • Members begin to realise the amount of complicated work ahead & sometimes panic. • They see disparity b/w their hopes & the reality of work ahead of them. • Many teams temporarily derail at this stage. • Issues-power , control & conflict. • How to lead-facilitate dialogue, build trust & confidence.

  7. NORMING • Stage where people get used to working together. • One can see co-operation over competition, more acceptance, comfort in giving and receiving feedback. • Issues-sharing responsibility, building confidence, developing trust & respect among members. • How to lead- delegate more responsibility & challenge the team with high stake assignment. • Help them grow in the process

PERFORMING • Team members are comfortable with each other and everyone reading from the same page. • Team performance soars & everyone's highest concern is TEAM SUCCESS. • Issues-continuous accomplishment of goals & maintaining the momentum. • How to lead-create an environment where members feel valued. • Suggest new goals & opportunities.
