Today, I felt lazy to write even a single word. My books are gathering up in my drive and the longer I wait, the more half-finished books are going to scream my name. I have to admit that I am a slow writer and procrastination is a big problem. Sometimes I mistake my procrastination for writer’s block. Sometimes it is the reality, while most of the time, it is not. I find three things that lead to procrastination - 1. Author’s Block as I stated above. 2. Not much communication with the outside world. 3. Mental Fatigue At the first, I can only say that a few days' breaks have helped me a lot. Taking my time off from writing helps me to start filling my brain with new scenes and new dialogue. Reading during these times didn’t help. Watch the water when they get accumulated in a hole in the ground and after sometimes they get algae settled on its surface? Imagining it? That’s what the mental state of an author becomes who has lost the communication with the outside world. At the start of my career, I would stay home as much as possible and dedicate all my time to writing. No wedding, no outgoings. Nothing. That made my condition even worse apart from no exercise and not enough sleep. Mental fatigue is the most common situation that authors go through. If you are a writer then you’ll have gone through it once
in a while. I wouldn’t say much on this because we all have some solution to this problem. Like, I have seen a writer who is a parent of a toddler, the only solution that worked for them is leaving writing for some time and spending much time with their little ones. I, being alone didn’t understand this much parent-clients a lot. but yes that helped my If you are single like me then the only solution I can say is to travel a little. Do not overthink and try to find a solution on your own. Because that’s not going to help. Try something else. Try to do something creative that has nothing to do with money-making and is more about expressing yourself and letting go of that steam that has been accumulating inside you for a while now. If you have read this far, I hope you are finding it useful. Do check my book My Mistakes in Self-Publishing if you are more into the writing business. Thanks!
