  2. WHAT IS CHILD THERAPY? Psychotherapy is sought for children and adolescents for different issues including mood issues, self harming, bullying, attachment issues, difficult behaviors, eating disorder, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), Learning difficulties, Autism etc. Usually child psychotherapy involves therapeutic work with a child and parents, or a family member. There are many effective forms of child therapy with evidence to back them up, including Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Family Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and Organization Training (Society of Clinical Child & Adolescent Psychology, 2017).

  3. WHEN IS CHILD THERAPY EFFECTIVE? If a parent or guardian is unsure whether their child requires counselling, the list of symptoms below can help. If the child exhibits one or more of these symptoms, as well as the parent's concern, it's a good idea to have him or her evaluated. The following are symptoms that may indicate a problem that therapy can correct or help with: Unwarranted aggression; Incontinence; Difficulty adjusting to social situations; Frequent nightmare and sleep difficulties; A sudden drop in grades at school; Persistent worry and anxiety; Withdrawing from activities they normally enjoy; Loss of appetite or dramatic weight loss/gain;

  4. AT WHAT AGE SHOULD A CHILD SEE A THERAPIST? There is no age limit for children who can and cannot receive counselling. From toddlers in preschool to teenagers in high school, everyone is welcome (which is why it is sometimes referred to as child and adolescent therapy). However, the reasons a child or adolescent might work with a therapist, as well as the therapist's therapy methods, differ for different age groups.

  5. HOW CAN CHILD THERAPY HELP? Therapy, like it can help adults, can help children in a variety of ways. The preceding section provides a brief overview of how it may benefit various age groups. However, in a broader sense, child therapy can help with both serious problems, such as mental illness, and minor ones, such as difficult feelings associated with moving to a new town. The main thing is that many children and teenagers can benefit from talking with a counsellor. The following are common issues addressed in child therapy: Mental illness, such as depression or anxiety The death of a loved one and other difficult losses Abuse (sexual, emotional, physical, mental) Addiction in the family Parents’ divorce Behavioral issues Developmental delays
