  2. The Basics • Capitol: Amsterdam • Population: 16,407,941 • Language: Dutch (Germanic Language) • The flag is red, white, and blue like ours, but all of the colors are striped. The red was originally orange but was changed on the battlefield because orange was to hard to see.

  3. Food • A normal breakfast would most likely be Bread or toast with jam or jelly. • A lunch would probably be a Salad, toast, cheese, and cold cuts such as roast beef, ham, and maybe turkey • Other traditional foods could be toast, Dutch cheese, jam or jelly, boiled eggs and coffee.

  4. Land and Climate • Holland is about the size of Massachusetts and Connecticut together. • Lots of rain throughout the year. • Temperature is about 28 degrees Fahrenheit (-2 degrees Celsius) in the winter. to 72 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius) in the summer.

  5. History • In the early 1500’s Holland was ruled by Spanish monarch. • In1568 prince William rebelled against the Spanish and started 80 year war. • In 1795 Holland became a suborned state

  6. Sports • Some of the most famous sports in Holland are: Soccer (called football), tennis, field hockey, bicycling, swimming, sailing, basketball, ice skating, wind surfing, and Badminton. • But the most famous is probably Soccer.

  7. Economy • If you went to Holland what would you be interested in buying? If I were you I’d probably buy some cheese (it’s a Dutch favorite), clompen (wooden shoes that the Dutch make), tulips( the Dutch are famous for them), and a bike (they outnumber cars 3 to 1). • The background shown is a picture of a Dutch tulip field.

  8. Fun Facts • The religion is about 31% Roman Catholic, 21% Protestant, 4.4% Muslim, and 3% other. • The Dutch are the tallest people in Europe. • In Holland there used to be over10,000 windmills, now there are only1,000.
