How to define Sensor and its different types?

There are different types of sensors that are commonly used in various applications. All these different sensors helps in measuring the physical properties like Temperature, Resistance, Capacitace, Conduction, Heat Transfer, etc. Types of sensors are- Temperature Sensor, Proximity Sensor, IR Sensor, Pressure Sensor, Light Sensor, Ultrasonic Sensor,Touch Sensor, Flow and Level Sensor.<br>

  2. What is Sensor? The device which detects the changes in electrical or physical quantities and produces an output by change in the quantity is called as a Sensor. We can also define a Sensor as a device that converts signals from one energy domain to electrical domain. Example: The simplest example of a Sensor is an LDR (Light Dependent Resistor).

  3. Different Types of Sensors: Here is some different types of are: Temperature Sensor Proximity Sensor Accelerometer IR Sensor(Infrared Sensor) Pressure Sensor Light Sensor Ultrasonic Sensor Smoke, Gas and Alcohol Sensor Touch Sensor Color Sensor Humidity Sensor Tilt Sensor Flow and Level Sensor

  5. 1- Temperature Sensor • As the name suggest Temperature Sensor is used to sense the temperature i.e. it measures the changes in the temperature. • There are different type of Temperature Sensor ICs, Thermistors, Thermocouples, RTD(Resistive Temperature Devices) etc.

  8. 2- Proximity Sensor • A proximity sensor is a type of sensor that is used to detect the presence of an object. • This sensor can be implemented using different techniques like Optical (Like Infrared or Laser), Ultrasonic, Hall Effect, Capacitive, etc.

  10. 3- Infrared Sensor • Infrared Sensors or simply IR Sensor is a light based sensor that is used in most of the applications like Proximity Sensor and Object Detection. • It is used in almost all mobile phones. • There are different type of Infrared Sensor 1- Temperature Sensor ICs, 2- Thermistors, 3- Thermocouples, 4- RTD(Resistive Temperature Devices)

  13. Applications of Infrared Sensor: Infrared Sensor is used in: • Mobile Phones • Robots • Automobiles • Industrial Assembly

  14. 4- Ultrasonic Sensor: • Ultrasonic Sensor is a device that is used to measure distance as well as velocity of an object. • Ultrasonic Sensor work on sound waves principle with higher frequency greater than Human Audible Range. Ultrasonic Sensor is used to measure the distance of an object i.e. similar to SONAR.

  16. 5- Flow Sensor • Flow Sensor are used to prevent downtime or damage caused by flow interruptions. • The application of flow sensor is to measure simple monitoring tasks and precise flow measurement.
