After the war got over, his family moved to Kolkata. There, he was sent to a Hindi medium school. 6. After graduating from the MIT, Mr. Burman migrated to Canada and started working in Canadian Industries Ltd.He returned to Kolkata, India in 1967, where he joined Dabur India Ltd. as an executive. Meanwhile, the situation in Bengal had worsened because of the Naxal movement. Amidst the unrest, curfews and lengthy power cuts, Dabur decided to shift its operations to Delhi. Mr. Burman was truly fascinated by Ayurveda. He mused about the difference between modern and ancient science, and realised that both can be merged. Hence, the Dabur motto: “Traditional Knowledge, Modern Research”.

  7. Dabur had a new project, in collaboration with a Swiss company, Unipectin. The factory of which was set up in Alwar, Rajasthan. It became functional in 1983 and was Dabur’s first public venture in India. Later, the plant was shut down after it failed to cover its costs. The factory was then converted into a manufacturing unit for Dabur products and the Guar Gum Company was also merged with it. In 1992, Pradip Burman moved to Delhi and started a new venture – A veterinary division of Dabur India Ltd that manufactured Ayurvedic medicine for animals . It was sold under the divisional name of Dabur Ayurvet Ltd and the consultant firm, McKinsey & Co. was called in to professionalise the same. Eventually, unhappy with the interference by McKinsey, Mr. Burman took over the firm and named it as “Ayurvet Ltd.”
