  2. What the film is about? • The film seems to be about some kind of government testing facility named Universal Testing. In this opening they are taking a memory from a girl, possibly due to her discovering something she wasn’t supposed to discover. This being shown on the monitor displaying her memory where she picks up the Universal Testing logo. This suggests some sort of investigatory aim from the girl.

  3. How does the opening sequence build tension? • One way the opening builds tension is with its use of ambience. The electrical buzz has a discomforting monotone sound to it which creates an overpowering effect, this is more evident in the last 5 seconds when it increases in volume. • Another way the opening builds tension is with the mysterious storyline. It leaves the audience asking more questions than are answered which is effective for creating anticipation.

  4. Who are the characters? • There are 5 unnamed characters in this opening those being 3 scientists, one lead scientist and a girl who presumably is the main character. • We are clearly supposed to feel sympathy towards the test subject due to the visible pain she expresses during the test. • The lead scientist seems to be the antagonist. This is shown by her clear lack of empathy towards the subject and her willingness to carry on with the testing.

  5. The plot of the film Since the tone of the opening seems quite dark the rest of the film could be set in the past. So the protagonist could set off to expose this corporation for unethical research or some other practice, only for her to be caught by members of the science team for not only experimentation but to also find out what she knows about their research.
