  1. The Importance of EMR Systems If you're not familiar with EMR systems, you're not alone. The healthcare industry is experiencing rapid change, and EMR systems are no exception. While there's no one perfect EMR system, you should be looking for a system that integrates well with your workflow and supports all formal and informal tasks. In the past, many EMR systems were designed for individual providers, rather than a team of medical professionals. An EMR system stores a portable digital record that travels with the patient. Because these records follow the patient to different care points, they can be shared electronically, allowing a primary care provider to send a patient's records to a dermatologist. The dermatologist can then view all the pertinent information about the patient. In this way, EMR systems allow medical professionals to better deliver care to their patients, as well as record their medical histories. The study found that women with higher education levels were less likely to report interferences from the EMR system. Perhaps they're used to using computers in their jobs and don't see it as a problem. Older women also tended to be less accepting of EMR system interference. But this was not the only factor. It's possible that older women are less accepting of EMR interferences than younger ones. In the study, older Japanese women had a higher risk of complications than younger women and were therefore less accepting of EMR systems. Although EMR systems are often customized for providers, a woman with a different gender or a different stage of pregnancy wants to see her EMR screen during her checkup. In addition, past studies have found that providers use the EMR system as a tool to help themselves, instead of ensuring the best care for their patients. This could be avoided by designing a woman-centered EMR. Eventually, we may see person- centered healthcare systems.
