HarmonizationofIndian safetystandardswithinternationalstandardsisits overallpurpose.SchemeXcertifiesIndian-madeor importedmachineryandelectricalequipmenttohigh safetyand technicalstandards.Underthisscheme, productshavetocomplywithIndianStandardsand carrytheBISStandardMark,whichindicatescompliancewithBISqualitystandards. Domesticandforeignproducerswhohaveplansto distributetheirproducts withintheIndianmarketareat thecenter.SchemeXmainlyfocusesonproductsthat havetocomplywithstringentsafetyrulesinorderto ensurereliabilityandconsumerconfidence. TheBISSchemeXcertificateassuresthemachinery, controlgear,andelectricalequipmentthatconform toIndiansafetystandards.Thecategorycoversa vastarrayofproducts,includinglowvoltage switchgearandcontrolgear,electricalequipment suchastransformersandpowersupplyunits,to heavymachineryandsafetyequipment. BISSchemeXLogo The Bureau ofIndianStandards(BIS)issuesaBIS certification underSchemeX forproductsthat conformtoIndia'squalityandsafetyrequirements. TheBISStandardMark,or the BISSchemeX CertificationMark,isamarkofproductcompliance andtrustworthiness. BISSchemeXCertificationMarkconsistsofthe licensenumber,mentionedatthebottomas'L- XXXXXXXXXX'.Theconcernedstandardnumber(if required)isatthetopofthemark.Itisissuedonly afterthemanufacturerpassestheBISLicense. IndianManufacturerscomplywithIndianStandards andmaketheirproductswithaproperBISStandard Markwhilesellingin the IndianMarket.Itis prohibitedand an offenseto showtheBISlicense number'L-XXXXXXXXXX'onanyproductwithouta validBISLicense.

OmnibusTechnicalRegulation (OTR) BISCertificationforMachineryandElectricalEquipment On28August2024,theOmnibusTechnicalRegulation(OTR)ordercameintoeffect.ThisorderisforMachineryand ElectricalEquipmentSafety.Thisorderwillapplytoalltypesofmachinesandelectricalequipment.Thisensuresthe safetyandconformityundertheBISSchemeXCertification. ImprovingProduct Quality Acrossvariousenvironments, reducingtheriskofsafety, and precludingaccidents. Mandatory Certification Allcertificationsmustbeacquired before sale/distributionbythe manufacturerorimporter. Consumer Protection Toprotectconsumers'safety, increaseproductivityinindustries, andensuregovernment enforcementofqualitycontrol. TheOmnibusTechnicalRegulationcoversawiderangeofmachineryandelectricalequipmentincludingpumps, compressors,centrifuges,cranes,constructionmachinery,metalcuttingmachinetools,transformers,generators, andswitchgearequipmentoperatingatvariousvoltages. August28,2025,marksthecompliancedeadlinefortheregulationofOTRproducts.Ifyouapplyforcertificationearly on,itwillrendertheproductmarket-readywithoutinterruptions.

Renewal,Validity&FeeStructure Renewal&Validityof CertificateUnderBIS SchemeX TheBISSchemeXcertificateisissuedforaperiodof fromthreetosixyears.Itmustbeclearlyunderstood thatthecertificateofconformityisvalidforaparticular productprototype,lot,orbatch,anddoesnotpermit continuedmanufactureofsuchproductswithoutdue permission. Forrenewalof the BISlicense, the licenseeshouldmake applicationnotlessthantwomonthsbeforethedateof expiryonForm-VIIofthisScheme.Theapplicationshall beexaminedbytheBoard,andtherenewalshallbe issuedinFormVIIIasperRegulation8ofthesaid Regulations.FollowingtheScheme-XCertification procedurewillhelpkeepyourproductconformingand approved. ManagementandAuthorizedPerson:Names andtitlesofkeymanagementpersonsandan authorizedsignatory. Detailsofequipmentandelectricalplantstobe registeredaccordingtotheFirstScheduleofthe OTR. Name/TypeandVarietyofProducts:Specific detailsofproductsforwhichtheBIScertification isapplied. EligibilityCriteriaUnderBIS SchemeXCertification EligibleEntities:Manufacturers,importers, distributors,and retailersengagedinthe manufacture,import,sale,or distributionof products. SpecificIndustries:Eligibilitydiffersdepending onthespecificproductorindustry. Manufacturers:Indianandforeign manufacturerscanapply.Foreign manufacturersmustnominateanAuthorized Indianrepresentative(AIR). FactoryProductionandQualityControl: Manufacturersshouldprovecompliancewith relevantIndianStandards. TechnicalFile:Completerepositoryofdata includingproductdescription,compliance reports,design,drawings,andquality assurance. Surveillance:BISmay conduct random surveillanceinspectionstocheck for continued compliance.
