  1. This presentation gives advice about what you could do if you come across a person who won’t wake up. It includes information about The Recovery Position. All pictures are reproduced with the kind permission of the British Heart Foundation.

  2. What if a person won’t wake up? Drs ABC D Check for Danger R Check for Response S If the person doesn’t respond, Shout for help.

  3. What if a person won’t wake up? Drs ABC A Open the Airway. Tilt back the head, and then lift the chin.

  4. What if a person won’t wake up? Drs ABC B Check for normal Breathing. Place your cheek close to the person’s mouth. Can you feel her breath on your face? Can you hear her breathe? Can you see her chest rising?

  5. If they are NOT BREATHING NORMALLY… …RING 999STRAIGHT AWAY THEN START CPR IF YOU KNOW HOW If they ARE BREATHING – put them in the RECOVERY POSITION

  6. The Recovery Position Make sure the person’s legs are straight. Place the arm nearest to you as though it is waving.

  7. The Recovery Position Bring the other arm across her body. Hold the back of her hand against her cheek.

  8. The Recovery Position With your other hand, pull up the knee furthest from you. Make sure the foot is flat on the ground. Then roll the person towards you.

  9. The Recovery Position Call 999 (or 112) and ask for an ambulance.
