  1. Spanish Honor Society: StayingActive and Relevant on a HS Campus Caitlin Howard Clover High School, SC

  3. Eligibility • Must be a sophomore • Must have an honors average (90% or higher for course) • Must be in Honors Spanish 3 • Must maintain honors average in Spanish 3 • Must maintain A/B average in subsequent levels • Must meet service/participation requirement of 10 hours

  4. Culture • Involve the community – find native speaking parents • National Foreign Language Week • Culture lessons – pair with French and clubs • Food for faculty – get teachers involved • Cultural trivia – use questions from lessons • ¡Hola Charlotte! And other similar festivals (take selfie) • Attend all Spanish church service (and bring program)

  5. Lengua • Tertulia • Monthly – 1st Tuesday of the month • Well known location – popular Mexican restaurant • Good food – chips & salsa • No financial obligation • All español • AP scores serve as evidence that it works!

  6. Service • Tutoring lower level students – FLEX • Bulletin board • Christmas tree contest • National Foreign Language Week (Day of No English, Culture lessons, Food for faculty, Trivia Thursday, Photo booth Friday) • Language Camp • Work or attend Hispanic festivals (¡Hola Charlotte!) • Attend church service in Spanish • Attend Spanish Club meeting

  7. Make students accountable • Students must turn in 10 service hours/units (5 spring) • Students must have 50% participation/attendance • Attendance is recorded by the Membership Secretary • Service hours must be signed off by a teacher • Maintaining good standing until graduation = honors cord
