Elements of tales • Fictional stories passed down through the generations • Many are animal stories that teach people a lesson. ie, Aesop’s Fables • Leading folklore scholars, brothers Jakob and Wilhelm Grimm, collected stories for Grimm’s Fairy Tales
Elements of tales, cont’d • They often include trolls, magicians, sorcerers, giants and witches • Many have the trickster as the hero • Hans Christian Anderson, a Danish author, wrote delightful classics such as The Ugly Duckling and the Emperor’s New Clothes.
