  1. CCR Task 1:How my product uses and challenges conventions and how it represent social groups or issues? https://youtu.be/3eJEKcCjSR0 Name : Solitude Genre : Psychological thriller Age certificate : Summary : A boy abused by his mother and then kills her. He is sent to a psychiatric ward where he receives counselling. Our target audience: Adult fans of thrillers, male or female.

  2. Our characters : Characters Female cast shown as stronger in comparison to the male characters who are weakened by the female characters. Main character Male character shown in a vulnerable state The psychologist A female character with a higher status than the male character The mother of the main character Childhood version of the main character Young and vulnerable Only shown for for a couple of seconds at a time

  3. Click here for my additional verbal explanations Challenging character stereotypes Female abuser challenging stereotypes Stereotypical character of an abuse father in the film IT Is a male character but is weakened and in a fragile state

  4. Camerawork We presented the psychologist as important and with higher in status than the other characters. Birds eye view – reduces her value and makes her appear weaker, her power is taken away Low angle of the psychologist making her look larger and more important Extreme close-up and close-up of our main character ‘Bird Box’ uses birds eye views to establish a location and the feeling of emptiness. Conventionally birds eye view shots are of a location, we broke convention by doing a birds eye view shot of a character Pan down shows the connection/relationship between characters In this shot there is a large amount of space between the psychologist and the main character

  5. Mise en scene The costume of the main character consists of a white t-shirt, white baggy trousers and white socks that I made very dirty to indicate poor hygiene that an institution may cause. - stereotypical Lighting is cold and fluorescent The set was very important to create an impression of the location and how the main character has lived. Cracks, tally's and hand prints all imply a badly cared for area (not a home) that the main character wishes to leave ’Shutter island’ uses a similar lighting and coloring technique The psychologist dressed in a dark suit that strongly contradicts the patients white clothing

  6. Click the images to watch the clip Sound Piano keys Diegetic sound of a door opening and then footsteps Heartbeat that builds suspense Sound bridge Dialogue from the psychologist

  7. https://youtu.be/hB7JVOVx0Qw - ‘stranger things’ flash back scene we took inspiration from - Reverse overlap of the same shot - Shaking of the shot shows distortion and an unstable mind Editing https://youtu.be/W2hjlA1rEfM - space odyssey graphic match cut example Fade in and fade out of all the characters shows that the main characters thoughts are overlapping and jumbled. The blurring of the overlapped shots connotes the lack of clarity of his thoughts and feelings.
