  3. They were dirty, messy, and…. smelly, with diseases and… even…. Soldiers often died in the hospitals Can you think why? Before Florence arrived RATS

  4. Florence wrote that • The men were kept in rooms without blankets or decent food. • Unwashed, they were still wearing their army uniforms that were "stiff with dirt and blood". • There were lots of diseases.
