Unemployment is among the larger challenges facing India. The Rate of unemployment has risen to 11% this month out of which city unemployment has risen by a percentage higher than the rural unemployment rate. According to the news business enterprise PTI, the main reason behind the severity of this data relating to job losses is “the Second Wave” of COVID-19 infections. As the employment rate is expected to come at 12 percent at the may end additionally as towards 8 percent including this means that approximately 10 million or 1 crore Indians have lost jobs in this period. After the economy reopened following relaxation in lockdown after the First Wave , part of the trouble relating to unemployment seemed to have resolved. but now, under the lockdowns effected by the Second Wave, employment opportunities for the indian citizens have decimated at large.. It is very hard for people to get employment in the aftermath of losing their jobs. The higher unemployment ratio among the teenage youth is not only worrisome but also indicative of numerous issues for our country. The kind of education that the Indian youth receive is not tailored for skilled employment or vocational positions. There is a dearth of skill development courses in our country. So skill-based education can be the ?rst step towards a solution to unemployment and consequently a resolution to poverty in India. The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana allocated Rs ₹12,000 cr over the last four years for training and skilling young people for 150 to 300 hours and helping them become employable. The government needs to focus on creating a skilled labour force. Other than this, the government should make greater investments in the healthcare sector, industries, agriculture etc. which will assist in creating more jobs. As per a nationwide survey report, it has been found that the labour participation rate has come all the way down to 40% now from pre- pandemic level of 42.5%. Labour participation is the percentage of the working age population in the market. Coronavirus-related infection and deaths, the migrant crisis continues to loom and the workers in India remain unemployed still with no savings and fewer job opportunities. As India reports the most devastating effect of the pandemic and the resulting lockdown were on the economically backward sections who were faced with the maximum constraints to get admissions into the hospitals and get required health services. This led to the government launching a number of programmes and campaigns to assist and maintain these households. Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana, ₹312bn were distributed to around 331 million bene?ciaries that included women, construction workers, farmers, and senior citizens. Additional aid was announced mid-May, primarily to help small business groups in the crisis. You can do this too! Write an article or a poem, create a sketch or a podcast. Possibilities await!
