FindingsTracking since Jan 2006 • For the region, inpatient admissions, as well as inpatient rates, have slowly decreased over the period. • For the region, Average Length of Stay is rising slightly. Median Length of stay fluctuates between five and six days. • UPMC and its affiliates hold the largest share of inpatient admissions. • Inpatient readmission rates have dropped slightly.

  3. FindingsTracking since Jan 2006 Length of Stay in Extended Acute is approximately 115 days. Length of Stay on the Extended Acute Waiting List is about 73 days RTF-A Average Length of Stay and Median Length of stay are trending upward. RTF-A Average Days on Waiting List has dropped recently due to several discharges. 3

  9. Inpatient Admissions Allegheny shows the highest admission rate, with an average of 7.45 admissions per 1000 enrollees; however, the rate is declining. The rate is 4.19 admissions in the surrounding counties. Adult, HealthChoices Only

  10. Inpatient Length of Stay For the region, ALOS is trending slightly upward. Median Length of Stay fluctuates between five and six days. Adult, HealthChoices Only

  11. Inpatient Length of Stay Allegheny has the highest ALOS with an average of 10.79 days. Of note, is Allegheny’s increase in ALOS over the last couple months. The surrounding counties have an average of 6.33 days. Adult, HealthChoices Only

  12. Inpatient Readmissions Readmission categories are trending downward but have high fluctuation rates. Adult, HealthChoices Only Drop off due to Claims lag

  17. Extended Acute - Length of Stay Allegheny County Only The ALOS for those discharged is 115.69 days with a MLOS of 95.50 days. In addition, the average days on the waiting list are 73 days and the ALOS including those in-house, is 156 days.
