  5. The Love of the Father • Luke 15:20 – “And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him.”

  6. The Love of the Father • God is looking for us to return to Him. • II Peter 3:9 – “not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” • James 4:8 – “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”

  7. The Love of the Father • God has reach out to use through Jesus Christ, our Savior • I John 4:8-10 – “He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins” • Ephesians 2:4-6 – “even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ”

  9. The Forgiveness of the Father • Luke 15:20-24 – “…and am no longer worthy to be called your son. But the father said to his servants, Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet.”

  10. The Forgiveness of the Father • Truly we have sinned against God, yet He is willing to forgive. • Isaiah 1:18-19 –“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as wool” • Hebrews 10:16-17 – “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”

The Forgiveness of the Father • Truly we are not worthy to be call God’s Children, yet He is willing. • II Corinthians 6:16-18 – “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty” • I John 3:1-3 – “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!”

  12. The Forgiveness of the Father • Jesus tells us of the joy that God has in a sinner who repents • Luke 15:7 – “joy in heaven over one sinner who repents” • Luke 15:10 – “joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents”

  14. The Correction of the Father • Luke 15:25-32 – “It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.”

  15. The Correction of the Father • If are unwilling to forgive, then we need God’s correction • Mark 11:25-26 – “If you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses” • Luke 11:2-4 – “and forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us”

  16. The Correction of the Father • A Father’s Correction is an act of Love • Proverbs 13:24 – “He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly” • Hebrews 12:5-6 – “For whom the Lord loves He chastens, and scourges every son whom He receives”

Conclusion • The Prodigal Son’s Father represents our Loving & Forgiving Father in Heaven. • God loves us so much & is willing to forgive us if we are willing to come to Him. • Are you as the Prodigal Son & have strayed away from your heavenly Father? • Why don’t you follow the Prodigal Son’s example and come back to God tonight? • God is waiting to receive you & to call you His child once again.
