  2. Agenda • Problem Statement • Solution • System Diagram • Sub-system Descriptions • In-feed • Feed Tube • Sound Plate • Catch Drawer • Pneumatics • Schedule • Budget

  3. Problem Statement • Our team was given the challenge to design a machine that improves the method of counting puzzle pieces for quality control. • The current method requires a human counting by hand piece by piece. • This is too time consuming, labor intensive and impractical.

  4. Problem Solution We plan to use a combination of a pneumatics system and electronics to count pieces as they are loaded into the machine. • Air System • Microphone/Amplification • User Interface

  5. System Diagram Pieces In-Feed Hopper Microphone Feed Tube Air Inlet *tink Sound Plate LCD Display Air Outlet Start Button Stop/Reset Catch Drawer

  6. In-Feed Hopper Requirements • Table orientation. • Feed rate. • Inlet sizing. • Material.

  7. In-Feed Hopper Details • Stainless Steel • Back and Side Walls • Rounded Bottom • 8” Wide

  8. Catch Drawer • Made out of wood. • Simple two piece design that interlocks.

  9. Feed Tube 2.5” • Material: Clear PVC • 12” x 2.5”od • Mounted angle 5° • Backplug = Nylon Back Plug 12”

  10. Sound Plate • Materials to be tested. • Wood • Sheet metal • Polycarbonate • Nylon • Acrylic • Chipboard Items will be tested at different thicknesses.

  11. Pneumatics • Flow works Simulations • Upcoming Testing • Nozzle Location
