  1. Attracting an Audience Paris Kazmi

  2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? • Darkness is one of the biggest conventions of a horror movie and therefore we filmed most of the opening in the evening when it was dark. • As our target audience were fans of horror movies, filming in the dark being a huge convention of horror movies allows them to prefer darkness to light

  3. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? • I believe that the flashback was useful in our opening to help the audience understand what the relationship is between the psycho and Daniel. Flashbacks usually enter in a way that the audience fully acknowledges that a flashback is about to appear. For example, it may come in a blurry type of way. • This is helpful for the audience and will interest them in the story even more.

  4. How does your media product represent particular social groups? • In horror movies, there is always one character which is out of place and unlike the rest. This gives the audience something to be interested in and keep their eye on. • The psycho was wearing black clothes throughout the opening therefore depicting her as evil and deadly. We also did not see much of her and hear much from her, which creates her as mysterious.

  5. How did you attract/address your audience? • Creating the opening as unconventional and changing what was the previous protagonist from male to female is what attracted our target audience the most. They wanted a change in the central character and this is what we have pursued. • This was part of the feedback we received from our research and therefore we changed our ideas to suit our target audience.

  6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product? Gift From The Psycho • During this production, I have learned how to use Final Cut at a beginners level. I was able to decide how I wanted the credits to appear: in what font, with what effects. I learned how to use the camcorder- placing the tape in, how to replay what we had just filmed. Etc.
