  2. BIM • Bulgarian Institute of Metrology (BIM) was established according to the amendment of Law on Measurements adopted by the Bulgarian Parliament in 2005. • BIM is a legal body under Council of Ministers

  3. BIM – main activities • Establishment, maintenance and development of national measurement standards; • Organisation of building up and development of the national system for certified reference materials; • Ensuring traceability of measurements in Bulgaria; • Metrological control of measuring instruments; • Metrological expertise of measuring instruments; • Support of the state authorities in fulfilling their powers on matters connected with measurements; • Carrying out activities on international recognition of the measurement results; • Carrying out metrological investigations and services connected with measurements and measuring instruments in the fields of public, scientific and economic interests.

  6. Location of BIM buildings in Sofia The buildings are located within the town-planning scheme of Sofia Buildings 1 and 2 are in the commercial and civil zone of Sofia 1 2

  7. DG “MMI” consists of: • Control-methodological Department • Type examination of measuring instruments (“TEMI”) Department, and • Six Regional Departments with 16 sectors

  8. DG “MMI” MAIN ACTIVITIES:

  9. DG “NCM” consists of: • Scientific and technical assurance and Quality Department • 4 Departments for different fields of measurements: Electrical, Chemical, Physical and Mechanical

  10. NCM main activities (1) • elaborates a long-term program for development and improvement of the national measurement standards; • establishes, maintains and develops the Bulgarian national measurement standards; • ensures the traceability of the national measurement standards to international ones or to measurement standards of Member States of the Meter Convention;

  11. NCM main activities (2) • organizes and participates in international comparisons for determining the level of equivalence of the national measurement standards; • disseminates all over the country the units from the national measurement standards to the lower accuracy level standards by means of calibration; • organizes and/or carries out certification of reference materials;

  12. NCM main activities (3) • carries out activities in pursuance of the requirements of the CIPM –MRA • participates in projects of the International Committee of Weights and Measures (CIML), European Collaboration in Measurement Standards (EUROMET) and Euro-Asian Cooperation of National Metrological Institutes (COOMET)
