  2. FBi Radio • Sydney based metro community broadcaster. • Committed to Sydney Music Arts and Culture. • Operates on a youth licence. • Boasts a volunteer community of around 200.

  3. FBi Radio • Became a full time broadcaster in 2003. • Strong focus on music in programming. • Introduction of talks based programs around 2007 starting with Canvas, the FBi Arts and Ideas program.

  6. All the Best…how it all began… • All the Best first broadcast in March 2010 • Began with a handful of volunteers - 5 people • Began with segments as a two hour show • Soon moved to one hour themed shows • Grew organically

  9. The Team Senior Editorial Team: Executive Producer, Features Producer, Presenter Editorial Team: Supervising Producers, Sound Supervisor, Co-ordinator Contributors: Content makers, Writers, Tech Producers, Musicians, Live content Producers, Podcasters

  10. Creating an Episode of ATB • Editorial meetings - choosing a theme • Programming meetings – brainstorming • Pitching an idea • Approval from Supervising Producer and Features Producers – fine tuning the angle • Show outline from SPs to Snr Ed • Feedback, feedback, feedback!

  11. The Feedback Process • THE PITCH: Work-shopping the idea on paper with the SP and FP • THE ROUGH CUT: Story structure, big picture changes, ed oversight • FINE CUTS: Fine tuning • BROADCAST FILE: Delivery specs • FOLLOW UP: Engaging after the final edit

  12. Creating content in your community • Build a diverse range of contributors • Look in your own backyard for content • Find the right angle – personal over news angle • Tell big news stories with individual experiences

  13. Creating content in your community • Collaboration is key! • Build on networks within your community. • Engage with creative organisations who already produce content. • Think outside the box in terms of what you can use on air.

  17. Engaging Your Volunteers • Programming meetings every 6 weeks • Regular communication with contributors • One on one work with team (SPs and ed oversight) • Provide opportunities for development and growth
