  2. Uni- one • unique-being the only one of its kind; unlike anything else • unit-an individual thing or person regarded as single and complete, esp. for purposes of calculation • union-the action or fact of joining orbeing joined, esp. in a political context

  3. Mono- once • abnormally high proportion of monocytes in the blood • monotone-a continuing sound, esp. of someone's voice, that is unchanging in pitch and without intonation

  4. Bi/Duo- two • bilingual- speaking two languages fluently • bisect- divide into two parts • dual- consisting of two parts, elements, or aspects

  5. Tri- three • trilogy-a group of three related novels, plays, films, operas, or albums • triple-consisting of or involving three parts, things, or people • triangular- shaped like a triangle; having three sides and three corners

  6. Tri- three • trisect- divide (something) into three parts, typically three equal parts • triathlon- an athletic contest consisting of three different events, typically swimming, cycling, and long-distance running

  7. Quad- four • quadrilateral- a four-sided figure • quadriplegic- paralysis of all four limbs • quadragenarian- a person who is from 40 to 49 years old

  8. Pent- five • pentamerous- having parts arranged in groups of five • pentagon- a plane figure with five straight sides and five angles • pentagram- a five-pointed star that is formed by drawing a continuous line in five straight segments, often used as a mystic and magical symbol.

  9. Pent- five • pentameters- a line of verse consisting of five metrical feet, or (in Greek and Latin verse) of two halves each of two feet and a long syllable • penthouse- an apartment on the top floor of a tall building, typically luxuriously fitted and offering fine views

  10. Hex- six • hexagon- a plane figure with six straight sides and angles • hexachord- a musical scale of six notes with a half step between the third and fourth. An overlapping series of seven such scales starting on G, C, and F formed the basis of medieval music theory

  11. Hept- seven • heptagon- a plane figure with seven straight sides and angles • heptarchy- a plane figure with seven straight sides and angles. • heptameter- a line of verse consisting of seven metrical feet

  12. Oct- eight • octagon- a plane figure with eight straight sides and eight angles- • octuplets- each of eight children born at one birth

  13. Nona- nine • nonagon- a plane figure with nine straight sides and nine angles

  14. Dec/Deci- ten/tenth • decimeter- a metric unit of length, equal to one tenth of a meter • decimate- kill, destroy, or remove a large percentage or part of • decapod- an order of crustaceans that includes shrimps, crabs, and lobsters. They have five pairs of walking legs and are typically marine. • decade- a period of ten years

  15. Cent- one hundred/hundredth • centenarian- a person who is one hundred or more years old • centimeter- a metric unit of length, equal to one hundredth of a meter • century- a period of one hundred years

  16. Cent-one hundred/hundredth • centarian- a person who is or lives beyond the age of 100 years • centimeter- a metric unit of length, equal to one hundredth of a meter • century- a period of one hundred years

  17. Cent- one hundred/hundredth • centigrade- a period of one hundred years • centennial- a period of one hundred years
