    5. 5 Automatic Features AutoCorrect – corrects common capitalization, typing, and grammatical errors as you key. AutoFormat As You Type – applies built-in formats to text as you key. AutoText – stores frequently used text so it does not have to be rekeyed each time it is used.

    6. 6 Automatic Features AutoComplete – suggests an entire word after keying the first few letters. Automatic Spell Checking – identifies spelling errors as you type with a wavy red line. Automatic Grammar Checking – identifies grammatical errors with a wavy green line as you type.

    7. 7 Spelling and Grammar Checker Spelling and Grammar Checker – used to check the spelling and grammar of a document after you finish keying. Open the Tools menu and choose Spelling and Grammar, or click the Spelling and Grammar button on the Standard toolbar.

    9. 9 Inserting the Date and Time To insert the date and time into a document, open the Insert menu and choose Date and Time. The date will be updated each time that the document is opened if the Update automatically box is checked.

    10. 10 Thesaurus Thesaurus – finds a synonym for a word in a document. Select the word, open the Tools menu, and choose Language and Thesaurus from the submenu.

    11. 11 Inserting Symbols Symbols – special letters in a foreign language, or math and currency symbols not found on the keyboard. To insert a letter or symbol, open the Insert menu and choose Symbol.

    12. 12 Summary Automatic Features in Word: AutoCorrect, AutoFormat As You Type, AutoText, and AutoComplete. Automatic spell checking identifies misspelled words with a wavy red underline. Automatic grammar checking identifies grammatical errors with a wavy green underline.

    13. 13 Summary (cont.) A date can be inserted in a document using the Date and Time command on the Insert menu. The Thesaurus is used to find a synonym for a word in the document. Using the Symbols dialog box allows you to insert symbols that are not found on the keyboard.
