  2. Background “That Manitoba Registered Nurses need a professional association given the pending changes to the CRNM’s mandate and pending changes to the RHPA” (CRNM, 2012)

  3. Background cont’d Changing CRNM role: • Regulatory mandate only • Mandate to represent profession of nursing reduced • Does not have mandate to be the jurisdictional member of CNA

  4. Background cont’d Motion at the 2012 AGM - CRNM will work with Gov’t & CNA to: • Support continued CNA membership for every RN in Manitoba • Enable a mechanism for the voice of RNs in Manitoba to be heard

  5. Background cont’d • Memorandum of understanding between CRNM/Gov’t and CNA established • Enables CRNM to temporarily remain a member of CNA until another group is formed

  6. MANITOBA RN NETWORK forme 2014 • Steering Committee established • Purpose: To explore the need, mandate and feasibility of creating a professional association

  7. MANITOBA RN NETWORK 2014 • If we If we do not move forward now: • NO representation on CNA • NO input to Public Policy • NO MB RN position papers • NO advocacy voice • NO RN support programs e.g. Nurses at Risk

  8. MANITOBA RN NETWORK 2014 Initial actions, • Preliminary work plan drafted – 1st phase • 3 sub-committees, communication, engagement and social media, finance • Engaged a consultant with resources from CNA • Consulted with CRNM, to secure collaboration and resources • Consultation/focus groups with MB nurses and other jurisdiction • Secured booth at CNA Biennium

  9. MANITOBA RN NETWORK forme 2014 Next steps: • Establish financial feasibility of an association • Develop preliminary website, communication plan and materials • Develop business plan • Engage RNs in Manitoba
