Why do we need a 3 year business plan? • Proactive and forward thinking • Anticipate and adapt to changes in the market • Structure the organisation and activities to provide continued, relevant support for ALL of our members • Identify and exploit new business opportunities • Provide a secure base for the development of NIA and our members

Market Environment • 2008 - 11 • huge increase in insulation activity • downward pressure on price • not all companies able to access grant schemes • new Govt policies in new build and SME markets • development of Supplier Obligation post 2011 • introduction of Energy Performance Certificates • Post 2011 • all CWI and lofts to be completed by 2020 • roll out of solid wall insulation and micro generation • building regs zero carbon by 2016

What does this mean for us? • 2008 - 11 • huge increase in insulation activity and expansion • maintain customer confidence through professionalism and standards • downward pressure on price • build additional value into insulation • not all companies able to access grant schemes • broker engagement • identify alternative markets and products • new Govt policies in new build and SME markets • influence to our advantage • development of Supplier Obligation post 2011 • influence to protect/exploit and ensure a smooth delivery plan • introduction of Energy Performance Certificates • identify and develop opportunities

  17. Our Aim • To support our members in maximising business opportunities and developing their businesses whilst maintaining the professionalism of the industry

Objectives • To enable our members to operate more effectively, professionally and profitably, increasing the credibility of the association to make membership more desirable • To build the professionalism and image of the industry and awareness of the benefits and cost effectiveness of insulation amongst the public • To increase the influence of the insulation industry and position insulation as the key deliverable of the climate change and fuel poverty targets

Key Deliverables • Positively influence the shape and outcome of key Government policies • Develop a range of new membership services • Investigate and exploit new products and markets • Maximise opportunities from EPC’s and other developments • Reinforce the professionalism of the industry amongst the public • Broker a national insulation awareness campaign

Communications • Encourage and foster good working relations of all members of NIA and external bodies who work closely with our industry • Ensure members are kept fully up-to-date on all issues which will affect their businesses and the wider industry • Mediate between members and the public where there are any disagreements or misunderstandings • Work collaboratively in the development of a consistent set of messages promoting the benefits of insulation • Ensure the public view the insulation industry as a professional body

CERT – Policy Objectives • Industry Capacity • - ensured full confidence from Government that capacity to deliver doubled target • Smooth Transition • - unlimited carry over announced • - 300k extra jobs announced in Budget 2006 • - scores finalised earlier than ever before • - Minister would not agree to an uplift on measures • Size of Priority Group • - PG reduced from 47% to 40% • - 500k from PG to ATP • - PG Flexibility developed – can reduce PG to 35% • - 70 and over added to PG – extra 700k fillable CWI

CERT – Policy Objectives • Encourage Solid Wall Insulation • - included as part of the PG FO – must be to 0.5 watts per metre squared kelvin or less • - biomass removed from PG FO • - included in Market Transformation to 6% of target • - results in a 50% uplift for SWI • - given same uplift as other technologies • Carbon Savings • - loft insulation lifetime increased to 40 years • - lifetime savings retained over annual savings • - worked on getting the best savings possible for the industry

Supplier Obligation 2011-2020 • Annual carbon savings back on agenda! • Measure based approach vs Cap and Trade • Need to ensure all remaining CWI and LI completed • Need to protect insulation as most cost-effective measure • Technical solutions vs behavioural solutions • Need to separate out social obligation from carbon • Need for early certainty!

Current Objectives • Need to help prepare industry for when CWI completed • Continue to work to build SWI capacity • Open up SME and PRS sectors • Explore other markets which can be exploited • Work with members to realise potential of zero carbon new build agenda • Continue to push for a whole house approach • Work with Scheme Managers to deliver effective fuel poverty programmes • Change fuel poverty approach from individual to property • Continue to seek policy opportunities for our members…
