  2. Objectives 1. Student will explore the order property. • Students will identify combinations for sums through 10. • Students will write vertical addition sentences. • Students will solve story problems about money to 10 cents.

  3. Standards First Grade: Mathematics Number Sense 1.3 Represent equivalent forms of the same number through the use of physical models, diagrams and number expression. 2.5 Show the meaning of addition and subtraction.

  4. Standards First Grade: Mathematics Mathematical Reasoning 1.2 Use tools, such as manipulatives and sketches to model problems. 3.0 Students note connections between one problem and another.

  5. Standards First Grade: Mathematics Algebra and Functions 1.0 Students use number sentence with operational symbols and expressions to solve problems. 1.2 Students understand the meaning of symbols +, -, = .

  6. Activities • Students will use connecting cubes to practice addition to 10. • Students will make math picture dictionaries. • Students will line up at the front of the room and teacher will help them make combinations of sums to 10. • Students will make flashcards with addition problems to 10. • Students will use calculators to practice their addition. • Teacher will use transparencies 2.1-2.5 to demonstrate story problems.

  7. Activities • Students will play computer games such as Speed Math, Stanley’s Sticky Stories, and Resource Carnival Countdown to practice their addition facts to 10. • Students will use worksheets from the Hartcourt Brace Mathematics student activity book.

  9. Assessment Students will be given a pre and post test to compare growth in their learning of addition skills up to ten. At least 70% of the students should be able to pass the test with 75% or better.

  10. Using Technology Teacher used overhead projector to show the process of adding numbers. Students used calculators and computer games to practice their addition math skills to 10.
